There will be new entry conditions for Canada as of 15th of March 2016. Now private and business travelers that will enter or change in Canada by plane need an electronic entry permit (in short: ETA – Electronic Travel Authorization). This permit is requested electronically, just like the visa for the USA. It only applies to citizens from countries for which there is no visa obligation. US citizens and travelers with a valid visa are excluded from this agreement.

Please note that, as of 15th of March 2016, also Swiss citizens need an electronic permit for entries in Canada. A fee of 7 CAD is charged for the ETA. It is valid for 5 years as of the issuance date, if the passport used for the application is also valid for that time.
