In many countries around the world, visitors from Switzerland are required to have a visa. If you are planning a private trip for a set period, the appropriate tourist visa or visitor visa will allow you to stay abroad. If you are traveling for business, as a student, journalist, or aid worker, you will need to apply for a different visa. Depending on the purpose of your trip, you can apply for the following visas:
Note: As a Swiss citizen, you do not need to apply for a visa to travel to countries within the European Union! With your ID card or passport, you have free entry to the countries of the Schengen area.

As an independent traveler or package tourist, you are entitled to stay in a country requiring a visa. You must apply for the appropriate tourist visa. The validity of the residence permit varies from country to country. There are also significant differences in the cost of the visa application and the requirements. Check our country pages for the individual conditions for tourist visas or contact us – we can apply for your tourist visa for you.
Note: The consulate responsible for tourist visas for the respective destination country is located in Switzerland. This is where the documents for the visa application must be submitted. In some cases, you must appear in person at the consulate; sometimes you can appoint an authorized representative – like us – to do so.
If you are traveling to another country for personal reasons, you can apply for a visitor visa or private visa. You usually need a so-called non-immigrant visa for visiting purposes. This ensures that private entries are for a limited stay and not for migration. With such a visa, you may not work abroad but can handle personal matters or have documents certified locally.
If you plan to work and be employed abroad, you must apply for a work visa. If you are only attending meetings or negotiations, a business visa is often sufficient. For highly qualified workers, the so-called expert visa may also be an option.
Swiss citizens and citizens of certain other countries do not require traditional visa applications for several countries but another form of travel authorization. For example, for entry to Australia, Canada, India, or Sri Lanka, an eTA (“Electronic Travel Authority”) is required – an electronic travel authorization. Similarly, ESTA (“Electronic System for Travel Authorization”) is an electronic travel authorization system used in the USA for shorter stays. The relevant application form must be filled out online in advance. Upon entry, officials check for the corresponding registration and your passport.
The appropriate application form to meet the requirements of your stay can be easily found on the page of the respective country. You can fill it out there and send it to us. Once the fee has been paid, you will usually receive the appropriate visas within 2 hours!
